Nonfarm payrolls were up 160,000 in April, according to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, below economists’ average expectations and the fewest new jobs in seven months. The construction sector added just 1,000 jobs, and the unemployment rate was steady at 5%. The labor participation rate fell from 63% to 62.8%.
