Turner Construction is demolishing the Wilshire Grand Hotel in Los Angeles to make way for a new $1 billion hotel that will have 900 rooms. At 73 stories tall, it is slated to become the highest building west of the Mississippi River. A number of safety features will be built in, including a staircase in the middle of the building that is surrounded by four-foot-thick concrete walls. Read the Los Angeles Times story here.
