J.C. Anderson completes new cafe bar concept for merchandise mart

J.C. Anderson has completed the much anticipated Marshall’s Landing, a 12,000 square foot café and bar concept operated by DMK Restaurants within Chicago’s Merchandise Mart. Named for the Mart’s founder, Marshall Field, the space sits at the top of the building’s “grand stair” and is open daily from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. The 12,000-square-foot café and bar features a grand hall lounge with open tables conducive to meetings, leather and velvet banquet seating along the north windows with expansive views of the Chicago River, and a private dining facility with a large rolling door made of walnut and blackened steel.

J.C. Anderson also constructed a state-of-the-art kitchen with a beer cooler, prep holding cooler, a coffee service station and pastry counter, as well as a second kitchen on the lower-level for prep and storage. Additional features of Marshall’s Landing include a 50-foot long tilted glass mirror surrounded by brass, a walnut and brass bar with 118 overhead light fixtures and extensive millwork, and usb/electric outlets available in the walnut laden communal seating area. J.C. Anderson was also responsible for the extensive finishes throughout the space including dramatic light fixtures, brick veneer wall and linen wall coverings, terrazzo and ceramic flooring, and a substantial amount of intricate millwork. The construction team for J.C. Anderson was led by Project Executive Douglas and Project Superintendent Glenn Panfil. A + I Architecture out of New York and VDTA from Chicago provided the architectural services.
