L.A.’s $2.8B Purple Line extension to get $2.1B from feds

Los Angeles plans to extend its fifth subway line for a cost of $2.8 billion. The Purple Line would run to Beverly Hills, and work would involve building three new stations along the 4-mile extension. Federal transportation officials will provide $2.1 billion in grants and loans to go toward the project, which should be completed in 2023.
