Data from STR show that 2,925 hotel projects were under way in the United States at the start of 2014, marking a 16.4 percent increase from the previous year. Hotel development is markedly increased in the New York, Pittsburgh and Miami markets, among others, with New York boosting its total inventory to 112,947 rooms last year, STR reports.
