Report: Chicago-area sees uneven restaurant growth

Innovative chefs and restaurant concepts have made Chicago a star on the culinary map, but the wider six-county region lags behind the nation in restaurant growth, according to NPD Group. The number of restaurants grew 5.1 percent over the past nine years, compared to a 6.7 percent net increase nationwide, with chains accounting for most of the increase.
