Report: Katrina, Sandy are costliest modern weather-related disasters

Hurricanes Katrina and Sandy caused more in economic losses than any other storms since 1970, according to a report from the World Meteorological Organization and Catholic University of Louvain’s Centre for Research on Epidemiology of Disasters. Economic damages for Hurricane Katrina were about $147 billion, and losses for Hurricane Sandy totaled $50 billion, the report said. Read The Star-Ledger story here
