Small, independent grocers go hyperlocal to compete in NYC

New York City’s small and independent grocers are taking a hyperlocal approach to compete with national chains and growing online and specialty competition, according to Crain’s New York. Retailers such as Met Fresh are tailoring their merchandise to the neighborhood residents that can walk to their stores and emphasizing offerings including organic produce, gluten-free foods and craft beer caves to drive business in the competitive market.
