If you have decided to read this article because you are unfamiliar with what HDB is then you should know that it stands for housing and development board apartments or as they are more popularly known in Singapore as flats and condominiums. People are choosing to live in such establishments because they want to enjoy a better living experience and they want access to things like swimming pools, gymnasiums and 24-hour security for both themselves and their children.
This isn’t too much to ask and the good news is that the HDB rental price has never been lower than it is right now. This has led to their growing popularity here in Singapore and they are attractive to both the local community and foreigners who come to live there as well. If you have never lived in this type of accommodation before then the following are some of the benefits of HDB living over other accommodation choices here in Singapore.
Security is much less intrusive – Sometimes security personnel can go a little bit over the top when it comes to your family members visiting you at your private condominium. There is security in place in housing and development board apartments but they tend to blend into the background and only step forward when really needed. This means that you can invite friends and family around and it is a lot easier to get food delivered to your flat as well.
The fees are lower – When you live in a condominium building, you are expected to pay for all of the amenities including the swimming pool, the gymnasium and the common area that you will probably use very little over the coming years. The good news is that these types of flats are subsidised by the government and so even though you might still have your swimming pool and your gym, the fees are much lower across the board.
They are in excellent locations – You will find that your HDB building is located close to everything that you could possibly need to live your life as normal. You can easily find hairdressers and barbers, many markets to buy your fruit and vegetables and high numbers of retail stores to choose from. Your neighbours are always keeping an eye out for you and there is a great sense of belonging in these places that you don’t really get with private condominium living.
One of the main selling points, however, is the particular council area that you live in will assist when essential repairs need to be made to your building. When you live in a condominium, you are expected to pay fees over the course of many years but this doesn’t guarantee that major repairs will be carried out with this money. These types of flats are much cheaper than condominiums and that leaves more money left to enjoy the finer things in life like eating out in restaurants and shopping. Hopefully, this article has made choosing your new accommodation easier.
